Boutique wedding venue BoHo has super-efficient wood pellets delivered by Forest Fuels to heat its premises, letting cottages and living accommodation in St Just, near Lands End. Forest Fuels also provided the funding for the boiler, which is believed to be the furthest-west wood fuel installation in the country.

Nestled on the very edge of West Cornwall, existing in complete harmony with its surroundings, boutique elopement wedding venue BoHo Cornwall is seen by many as the perfect place to run away and get married.

With such a romantic setting, when BoHo’s owners Tom and Maya Conway were looking to replace their old oil boiler they had their heart set on a clean renewable energy solution. However, they were concerned that it may be either too expensive or that woodfuel could not be delivered to such a remote location. At least that’s what they thought – until the couple were introduced to wood fuel specialist Forest Fuels.

“We were thrilled when we found out that a biomass boiler was not only the most effective solution for us but also that Forest Fuels deliver first-rate locally-sourced woodfuel directly to our door.
There is ethical thinking behind everything we do at BoHo, from the way we run our business to the local food that we serve. When we decided to replace our oil-fired heating we were determined to have a clean, low-carbon solution. We were thrilled when we found out that a biomass boiler was not only the most effective solution for us but also that Forest Fuels deliver first-rate locally-sourced woodfuel directly to our door.”

Stable fuel prices and income for generating renewable heat

In addition to being a low-carbon fuel source, Tom and Maya also needed the figures to stack up, so they were pleased to discover using wood pellets for fuel would earn them government payments for every unit of renewable heat generated – for the next 20 years.

Beating volatile oil prices

“Oil prices had just shot up, so we were keen to use a fuel that wouldn’t be subject to such vast changes in price,” added Tom. “We can now comfortably predict the future price of our wood pellets, and thanks to the Renewable Heat Incentive we will continue to receive payments for the energy we generate for the next 20 years. It’s the perfect solution and our improved green credentials are a real winner with customers too.”

“A pellet boiler is an ideal solution for this site. The design included a large store, which keeps the fuel costs as low as possible Although this was more expensive to install than a smaller store, it will pay dividends in terms of reducing ongoing costs.”
