Forest Fuels ltd supplies Devon County Hall.

Forest Fuels ltd are supplying Devon County Hall in Exeter with wood chip from their depot in East Devon less than 15 miles from from Exeter.

The 840kW biomass boiler uses sustainable woodchip fuel supplied locally by Forest Fuels ltd, rather than conventional non-renewable carbon fuels such as gas, oil, coal and electricity and will be one of the biggest boilers of its kind in the southwest.

The boiler, which will reduce heating carbon emissions by 60% and save upwards of £20,000 a year, replaces the original 40 year old boilers which produced 269 tonnes of CO2 a year and cost £55,300 to run. The capital cost of the boiler and installation was £365,000.

Forest Fuels ltd is sourcing much the of the wood to produce the wood chip from the Clinton Devon Estate in East Devon. The supply is Forestry thinnings that don't have a market as fencing or for sawing into planks. Previously much of this wood was being transported to wales to board manufactures.

Forest Fuels ltd hope this clear signal from Devon County Council will encourage others to invest in biomass heating, that not only reduces carbon emissions but saves money in heating bills.
