Clean Heating at Restormel Manor
For the past two years, Forest Fuels has been supplying sustainable wood chip to Restormel Manor, a historic
country house in the heart of the Duchy estate near Lostwithiel in South East Cornwall.
Since its installation in 2009, the 300 KW Gilles boiler has provided the Manor house, surrounding holiday accommodation and swimming pool with low cost sustainable heating.
The 900 hectares of adjoining woodland provides an ideal source of sustainable fuel, offering a huge cost saving as well as zero carbon footprint. During the winter Forest Fuels delivers 30 cubic meters of wood chip every week, ensuring the boiler is able to function at full capacity. In summertime, the boiler consumes far less wood chip, only requiring a delivery every 2-3 weeks. The wood chip is tipped into an underground hopper and is fed to the boiler continuously using an auger. The design of the system makes it a low maintenance trouble free operation.
Wood fuel boilers offer an environmentally friendly and sustainable source of renewable energy. The grounds of the local estate offer a superb source of wood fuel allowing Forest Fuels to supply a total of 200 tonnes of high quality wood chip with low moisture content each year.
